How to create directory or file and prepend date to it

This shell script will create directory and will prepend current date to it. It will also "cd" in.

cd /tmp/
BACKUP="full.backup."
YYYYMMDDTIME="`date '+%d%m%Y%H%M%S'`" 
BACKUP=${BACKUP}${YYYYMMDDTIME}
mkdir $BACKUP
echo $BACKUP
cd $BACKUP
